I was living in Germany and wanted a reliable car (who am I kidding, I just wanted something new). After looking at a few options, the most practical of those was the VW Golf GTI. Took me a week to fall for it before I put my purchase order in. 4 1/2 years later, I am still in love with it as much as day 1.
